Does a child support order establish custody?

A child support order does not establish custody in and of itself. Rather, a child support order stems from a custody order. Child support is determined based on custody and gross monthly income. A parent with sole physical custody or primary custody can expect to receive child support from the non-custodial parent. If parents share joint physical custody, the court will still calculate child support.
